February 22, 2011; New York, NY: Topps, a leading global marketer of collectibles
and confections, has granted ABRAMS, the preeminent publisher of illustrated books,
an exclusive license to publish books inspired by Topps’ long-standing presence
in sports and popular culture. The multi-year arrangement is expected to yield
an array of non-fiction and fiction sports and entertainment-themed books and
calendars, which will be published across all of the ABRAMS imprints, including
Abrams ComicArts; Abrams Image; Abrams Books for Young Readers; Amulet Books;
and Stewart, Tabori & Chang. The deal was negotiated at Topps by Ira Friedman,
VP of Global Licensing, and at ABRAMS by Charles Kochman, Editorial Director.
The first line of books is slated to release in spring of 2012.

conjures up memories of collecting sports heroes and chronicling pop culture phenomena.
Plus, who can forget the unmistakable aroma of Topps’ classic Bazooka bubble

In
2008, Topps and ABRAMS collaborated on a project for the first time. An exquisitely
produced, cleverly packaged full-color hardcover book based upon Topps’ own
Wacky Packages parody property generated much acclaim, both critically and commercially,
and spawned a follow-up edition as well as the first-ever Wacky Packages calendar.
This initial relationship prompted discussions of other possible projects in the
vast Topps’ portfolio, which led to the alliance.

the auther, R.L. Stine, and signed copies of the book could be acquired with bookplates

Abrams
Children’s Books has announced the future publication of “Garbage Pail
Kids #1: Welcome to Smellville,” the first book in a middle-grade series
inspired by the Garbage Pail Kids. The deal for three books, including world rights,
was negotiated by Charles Kochman, editorial director, Abrams, and Ira Friedman,
vice president, global licensing, Topps. Kochman will also edit the books.
R.L.
Stine, author of the “Goosebumps” and “Fear Street” series,
has signed on to author the book. The series will feature cover art by Joe Simko
and interior illustrations by Jeff Zapata, both mainstay artists for the GPK brand
for Topps. Each book in the series will be packaged with four exclusive sticker
cards.

out of their minds,” says Stine. “In other words, my kind of kids. I’m
hoping to create a book series that captures all the loopy slapstick fun of these

+ gross-out bits, and a green splatter notice that the book ‘INCLUDES
4 BONUS STICKERS!‘ Little Golden Books®, a part of Peguin Random House,
contacted ABRAMS Books, after the original image release in February 2020, stating
the yellow + purple spine cover was too close in appearance to their ‘A Little
Golden Book’ series with the distinctive gold + black spine cover, containing
random images of flowers, animals and insects line artwork.

2020‘ catalogue showcased a mock up of the upcoming youth novel release
